Bean Burger with Alfalfa, Chilli Jam and Potato Wedges

18/05/13 - The Veg Box Café, Canterbury

Molly and I literally have a rota for our excursions to Canterbury.  Every visit we have lunch (or breakfast in the former’s case) at The Boho Café, The Veg Box Café, and Wagamama.  It was Veg Box’s turn for this visit!  They’re a vegetarian and vegan resturant up above a natural/organic/etc health food shop.  They’re really great and have specials every day as far as I’m aware.  I need to start visiting earlier, as what I was really eyeing up, the Sweet Potato and Caramelised Onion bake, was already sold out.

Instead I had their menu mainstay, the Bean Burger, served with wedges.  The burger itself is very yummy, though nothing fantastically exciting.  It is tasty in a “this is probably pretty healthy for me!” way mind you, it’s fairly plain but the chilli jam (which is smooth and rich rather than spicy) compliments it perfectly for this reason.  Their wedges are to die for too - super oily but in a delicious, flavoursome way rather than a greasy, fattening-tasting way.

Molly had a Puy Lentil Stew, one of their specials.  She liked it but I’m not much of a fan of stew so didn’t try it.  I decided to be daring and order Beetroot and Apple juice.  Little was I aware, unlike most unusual juices that only have a tiny bit of the unusual ingredient, topped up with apple juice to make it mild and enjoyable for all… this was the polar opposite!  90% Beetroot and 10% Apple.  I didn’t enjoy it at all but managed to force down half of it because it’s all healthy stuff.

For dessert I was spying some whippy looking cupcakes so took a gamble thinking they must be the Lemon cupcakes.  They were not.  The lemon cupcake was still delicious though, and check out the adorable way they served the milk with the coffee I had!  Taking a second gamble, when paying I asked for a Meringue to take away, but I’m still not convinced it’s what I saw in the display cabinet.  I shall have to slowly work my way down the dessert menu on subsequent visits until I find out what they are, because I refuse to just ask like a normal person.

FOOD!

Yesterday I was awake for 18 hours. I worked 12.5 of those hours. The rest was spent on a bus, in cars, eating pizza and finally sitting on the PC for a bit before going to bed. No, I didn’t have lunch. I ate a bag of crisps while sorting out the delivery at work and ate Quorn cocktail sausages in the car on the way to Canterbury. My breakfast was a hash brown and a cup of tea.

Good morning. It’s 6 am.

New Girl is giving me so many feels right now. Like, so many. Ugh. It’s disgusting.

I can’t get the tablet to work properly, SAI won’t do weighted lines.

Time to watch more New Girl I guess, at least until Jez notices this and tells me how to fix it.

I agreed to go out with people from work tonight, momentarily forgetting that I’m a hermit crab.

It was a success, mainly because Badinthelatin and Bluespottedog came.

Our room right now thanks to a pipe leaking under the floorboards. You can’t walk by the wall because the floorboards are pulled up. There is a narrow path to the corner of the bed, then you just climb.

Jez drank my Queen’s Jubilee tea. It arrived in a surprisingly big box considering it was just a small tin of tea and a card.

At work today one of the guys was serving this girl. I was out the back. She was asking about New Leaf and he said “Oh, it’s a good thing Molly’s not about, she’d squeal because she’s really excited about it.”

At which point I came out the front, saw the New Leaf box in the girl’s hands and squealed.

She doesn’t have a 3DS though, so she got Wild World instead.
